Santos Acquisitive Sculpture Award 2011

 


 

The Concept
Santos, a major Australian Oil and Gas Company, has committed $6,000 for a sculpture suited to placement outside the Roma Community Arts Centre which houses the Roma on Bungil Gallery.

The Community
Roma is the major town in the Maranoa District of the dry inland of Queensland, 500kms west of Brisbane. A large proportion of the population of the Maranoa has, either by birth or occupation, an involvement with the land and agricultural and rural pursuits. Roma is the largest Livestock Selling Centre in the Southern Hemisphere. The town and outlying areas have a large population of school children. A coal and gas industry, in which Santos is a major participant, is emerging in the district.

The Site
The Roma Community Arts Centre which houses the Gallery, Library and Studio spaces is situated between the main street and the Warrego Highway, which is the main east-west thoroughfare through the town. The sculpture will be visible from both thoroughfares and draw attention to the Artistic space.

The Brief
The completed work shall meet all the following criteria

Specifications

The Budget
The artist whose concept and design are chosen will be awarded $6,000.00 to cover all costs for the design, delivery and installation of the completed work on the footing provided. No further payment will be forthcoming. The artist will supply materials and install the work and /or contract a qualified tradesperson/artisan if required.

MOU
A MOU will be entered into with the successful artist detailing payment schedule and other relevant matters such as insurance, copyright, time frames etc and the responsibilities of both parties.

Expressions of Interest
In the Expression of Interest the Artist will provide the following

  1. CV of no more than two pages.
  2. All relevant contact details.
  3. Images of previous and/or current work. (Preferably on CD and max. of 10 low resolution images).
  4. A succinct written outline of their intended approach to the Commission.
  5. Drawing and details of the proposed sculpture indicating dimensions, estimated weight and medium/media (including finishes, colour/s and textures).
  6. Details of the footings needed for the work to be installed.

Expressions of Interest must be received via mail no later than 5pm on the 30th June 2011 by
