2012 Roma Easter Art Show

Opening Night was a gala affair held in the lounge area of the Arts Centre onThursday 5th April at 7pm. Altho’ there were less entries this year,the standard was high and it was a great show. With thanks to the artists from far and wide who supported the Easter Art Show, and to the judge Peter McKay from the Qld Art Gallery, Gallery of Modern Art Brisbane.

Photography by Dr Robert Bourke. Being on call 24/7 in the town of Surat, Robert has ample time to observe the everyday items in his home & surrounds with an artists eye. A mixture of black and white and colour predominately abstract photographs was on display in the Gallery. This proved to be a fascinating exhibition and was very well attended.
Artesian Country

The first Exhibition for the year 2012 was Artesian Country. A travelling exhibition from QLD Arts Council. Paintings, photography and 3D works by 12 artists from the Blackall/Barcaldine area of Queenslands Great Artesian Basin. The lifeblood of outback Australia.
John Morrisons Journeys

Paintings & drawings in a representational style with Australian & overseas subjects. It ran from 18th November to 18th december. John presented a very large collection of mixed genres which filled the Gallery to capacity and attracted many viewers. We hope John, an ex local, enjoyed the journey back to Roma.

S e l f – an exploration of being.
Talented local photographers Alistair & Nellie Brown presented an excellent exhibition.
They combined photographic portraits of local identities in situations they were either very comfortable with or very uncomfortable with, and landscapes, with an installation depicting the aspirations and journey of life. The opening was spectacular as people enterered the Gallery in darkness, to find the floor covered in a million newspapers, representing the information age.

A Talent Quest with a Difference. A collection of masterpieces by 40 shy, male, exhibitionists and general good sports from the Maranoa. A helmsman style auction followed the opening with proceeds going to Roma Men’s Shed. This very popular exhibition raised over $6000 for a great cause. The Gallery Committee wholeheartedly thank all the participants.
Opened 5.30pm September 9th 2011. Ran until 9th October.
The Remains of Our Time

An exciting and different mixed media exhibition by three artists. Jude Roberts, Amy Cochrane & Kathleen Hunt. This Exhibition ran from 23rd July until 28th August.

A Display by the members of the studios of the Roma Community Arts Centre .The Artisans do not have idle hands ! A very popular exhibition. Silversmiths, potters, ceramicist, doll & bear makers, quilters, performers, etc. The display ran from 10th June to 17th July 2011
CUT & FORMED ON THE PLAINS

Ran from 29th April to 5th of June with an opening night on Thursday 28th April at 5.30pm. Small exquisite bird sculptures by Lucy McEachern and vibrant hand-coloured lino-cuts by Vida Pearson made the Gallery sing. This was a very successful exhibition by these two artists from Victoria.
2011 Roma Easter Art Show

The Annual Roma Easter Art Show was once again a successful fund-raiser for Maranoa Artists inc. and a popular fixture of Easter in The Country. It was on display from 22nd to 25th April, and was a triumph over adversity for the organisers and volunteers, due to the very recent flooding in Roma and district.
CAROL McCORMACK ' CENTRED'

Well known Australian landscape artist, living on a cattle property near Glenmorgan Qld, Carol paints in jewel colours and the Gallery was lit up with her wonderful works. It was a much liked exhibition and was on show from March 18th until April 17th.

The first exhibition for 2011 was an installation by Maree Bracker. Maree works primarily in sculptural installations which are site-specific, ephemeral and are comprised or fabricated of ‘found’ objects and materials. maree regards each work as ‘finished’ when someone has entered the space. This very interesting concept, focusing on Marees memories of Roma’s Bungil Creek when she was a child, came to life in the Gallery. It ran from 12th February until March 13th.
Laura Douglas "I Like What I See"

In the Gallery from November 13th to December 19th, this exhibition featured a bright and fresh “take” on Laura’s world. Lots of horses and white and minimal fuss.

Pete Martin "Road Trip"

Pete Martin, artist and Gallery Director from Brisbane, brought his art to the bush in July. It was a thought provoking exhibition. Each painting had an accompanying essay. Many people spent a lot of time reading Petes’ thoughts on travel through landscape and life. It Ran from 11th July until 15th August
Jenie Fawckner "Marks & Mayhem"

This was a stunning and very popular exhibition. The technical ability of this young local artist, in her print-making and presentation was widely acclaimed. Commenced on Sunday 23rd May, and on show until the 4th July, not many works were left unsold.
OFF THE WALL

Was an eclectic mix of favourites from the walls of Friends of The Gallery. Opened on Friday 9th April at 5-30pm, and ran until the 15th of May. This exhibition was well liked . A short story about each work was an interesting adjunct to the paintings on the walls.
