BACKGROUND
The Roma on Bungil Gallery Santos Young Artist Bursary has been established with the generous support of Santos GLNC to assist young people from the ages of 15 to 21 years, who live within the Maranoa region of South West Queensland in pursuing studies in all aspects of Visual Arts.
It is recognised that young people from this region often have to leave the area to undertake studies in Visual Arts and this places an additional burden on them and their families. It is intended that the Roma on Bungil Gallery Santos Young Artist Bursary will benefit such students.
AIM
That the Bursary is to be used to defray costs associated with a young person’s visual arts studies and may
include expenses such as the purchase of materials, course texts, payment of course fees, etc.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Applications for The Roma on Bungil Gallery Santos Bursary are invited from young artists within the Maranoa Region who are aged between 15 and 21 years (On the 11th October 2019) who;
• Wish to undertake further education and training in the Arts
• Need financial assistance to enable them to complete an Arts course or workshop.
• Live within the Maranoa Region
VALUE OF THE BURSARY
The Bursary is worth $2,000.
SELECTION PROCESS
Applications will be competitively reviewed and applicants will be selected against the following criteria:
• Demonstrated interest and passion in developing a career within the Arts
• Community involvement in the Arts
• Artistic /Academic merit
You will be asked to provide an example of your work.
Short listed applicants will be interviewed by a panel comprising of members of the Roma on Bungil Gallery Committee, a Santos representative and an independent artist.
CONDITIONS
. The provision of the bursary will be conditional upon proof of enrolment in the specified course or workshop
Successful applicants for bursaries will be required to;
. Present a report to the ROBG Committee at the end of their course / workshop with evidence of their learnings.
. Share their learning with current students through a school visit or practical demonstration of their work with 12 months of completing their course/workshop.
At the conclusion of their studies the student may be invited to present an exhibition, a portfolio of work for public viewing, an installation or illustrated talk, in conjunction with the Roma on Bungil Gallery. The event will be influenced by the area of study pursued and the nature of the student’s work.
HOW TO APPLY
Complete the Application details form attached and provide a personal statement of no longer than 300 words that addresses the following:
. What are your short term and long term goals in relation to your art aspirations?
. What are your reasons for applying for this Bursary and how
will it help you achieve your goals?
. How will your selected course/workshop add value to your current experience and
knowledge of your artistic practice?
. List of participation in the arts such as exhibitions, performances, competitions,
voluntary or paid work as well as any awards received.
Include the names and contact details of at least one referee who is aware of your artistic experience and/or achievements and be able to support your application. The referee must not be immediate family members or relatives of yours.
. You must include a detailed budget with your application that explains how you plan to use the money provided by the bursary.
. You must provide at least 3 images, not more than 6, showing relevant examples of your artwork. These may be in digital form or printed. If you are selected for interview, there will opportunity to bring actual examples of your work to show the interview panel. Artwork submitted for consideration is to be your own work and not in breach of copyright.
